Even though the suicide rate in HICs for young people has been increasing it is nowhere near the suicide rate in lower-income countries. Having a developed economy and democratic government gives us the privilege to address mental health problems and suicide.

There is significant evidence suggesting that there is a direct correlation between economic status and suicide. The stress of living in poverty can drive people to suicide

There have been multiples contradictory studies that say suicide rates and HDI have an inverse relationship but also a direct relationship. This is due to other major factors for suicide such as religion and culture.

Suicide is a global crisis. There is very little media attention to suicide.  It is rarely addressed by officials. Very few people are taking action.
